This blog has been created for the members of EDT 3470 Gardening Group, Trista Kelly and Amber Malburg. It is available for communication and collaboration during the Fall 2010 Semester at Western Michigan University. We are participating in Project-Based Learning (PBL) as we work collaboratively to explore many of applications of instructional technology.

Welcome to EDT 3470 Gardening Group (Number 2)
Welcome group members. I hope you both are ready to get started. Please remember that we must use this blog for communication weekly. We need to make a concept map regarding our topic (gardening). Let's start by getting some ideas. What do you think we need to include in our concept map? Where should we begin?

I'm not really sure what we should have included in our concept map, but maybe we should start with the basics? Like for example, tips, supplies, and any gardening essentials that we think are important in this relam. Is that what we need to cover?
ReplyDeleteI think you have the idea.. In terms of education, what types of details pertaining to gardening might we wants to have our students explore? For example, components to maintain a garden (soil, water, sunlight). That could be a science category. We could also do something about maybe studying the different things we want in our garden. etc.
ReplyDeleteWe should start by defining what a garden is, what it means to garden, and all the components. Then we should include explorations of different plants, plant parts, etc. Then we can construct our own garden.
ReplyDeleteI think we should defiently define what a garden is and have details about a garden, for example different gardens: flower, veggie, etc. I like how you said we should explore different plants and plant parts. :) We should have steps, like how to pick your plants, how to start your garden, and your idea of what we need to maintain a garden.
ReplyDeleteOk, for our map it's pretty much like a web, I think. So in the middle we have our topic, gardening, and from there we branch off our topics: materials, different types of gardens, contructing, plants, tools, components.... I think I covered all of the branching off details. So from each branch, we branch off the more specific details. Example: gardening ---> components of garden ---> soil, water, light.
ReplyDeleteDo you want to add more or delete any branches off gardening?
I think this is the concept map....
I think you have the right ideas. Those are all great! I think we should use Inspiration (rather than Kidspiration) for this project. It is targeted for older students. I will be the first one to get Inspiration, unless you already have. Remember that we need to take turns downloading the free trial because we can only have it for 30 days and we are supposed to use it three different times. We may run into conflict if we are the only two people in this group. I'm sure we will think of something.
ReplyDeleteI's excited because I honestly think that we can develop projects for each school subject (math, science, English, Art, etc.). Let me know if you have anymore ideas.
ReplyDeleteOk, I didn't download inspiration yet. Did you submitt the inspiration web, or whatever we were suppose to have?
ReplyDeleteI'm going to do it this evening.
